The Emergency Child Care First Aid Course is a one-day in-class training designed for caregivers, early childhood educators, and daycare workers. It provides the knowledge and confidence to respond to emergencies involving children and babies while meeting provincial and territorial safety requirements.
Duration: 8 hours (in-class)
Completion Requirements: Demonstrate all skills and critical steps, achieve a minimum of 75% on the written evaluation, and attend 100% of the course
Certification: Emergency Child Care First Aid certification valid for 3 years
The course includes introduction to the Red Cross, the EMS system, and the “Check, Call, Care” process, followed by essential emergency skills. Participants learn how to respond to airway emergencies, breathing and circulation issues, and how to provide first aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest in children and babies.
In addition, the training covers wound care, head, neck, and spinal injuries, along with bone, muscle, and joint injuries. Participants are also prepared to handle sudden medical conditions, environmental illnesses, and poisoning incidents. A special attention is given to caring for children and infants in emergencies, ensuring caregivers are ready to act with confidence when it matters the most.
By the end of this program, participants learn both the knowledge and hands-on experience to save lives and provide immediate care in critical situations.
