Marine Basic First Aid Course

Duration: 16 Hours (8 Hours Online + 8 Hours In-Class)

Course Overview

The Marine Basic First Aid course is a comprehensive two-day training program tailored for individuals working in the marine and fishing industries.
Designed to meet the requirements of Transport Canada’s TP 13008E, this course provides participants with essential first aid and
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level C skills needed to respond effectively to medical emergencies at sea.

Participants learn how to recognize, prevent, and manage common injuries and illnesses that may occur in marine environments.
Training scenarios are realistic and based on real-life situations that crew members might face on board, ensuring practical, hands-on learning.

Whether you’re working toward a rating certificate, endorsement, or a Master/Chief Mate Limited certification, or you’re the designated
first aid provider on a vessel operating on near-coastal voyages (Class 2) or sheltered waters, this course is an essential qualification.

What You’ll Learn

  • Assessment and management of medical emergencies in marine settings
  • CPR and choking procedures for adults, children, and infants (CPR Level C)
  • Wound care, bleeding control, and fracture management

Course Completion Requirements

  • Completion of the Red Cross online learning module
  • 100% attendance at all in-class sessions
  • Minimum grade of 80% on both the written and practical evaluations

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive:

  • Marine Basic First Aid Certification (valid for 3 years)
  • Transport Canada Marine Basic First Aid Certification

Both certifications meet the standards set by Transport Canada’s Marine Personnel Regulations,
qualifying you to provide first aid care on marine vessels across Canada.
